Continuing to index works from A Treasury of War Poems. Complete now through 'L'.

June 28th

I've begun adding Poets to the index from Bob's online edition of A Treasury of War Poems. The letters A-F have been indexed so far. There are too many to list here, so go take a look at the book itself. It has an excellent set of indicies. --Steve

June 25th

The subjects People and War have been added to the subject index. (Jon)

June 24th

In part to make up for the fact that these updates are becoming less frequent, and in part in admission that the backlog of works to index and upload is still large, today's update is a substantial one, including many new poets and a great breadth of subjects.

As additional projects, Bob Blair has added A Treasury of War Poems - a thoughtful collection of over 150 poets. I have also finished re-scripting and illustrating Tennyson's The Princess.

Among today's varied additions are some early poems of Hart Crane, a number of pieces by Shelley and Wyatt, and the very readable tale of Dauber by John Masefield.

The snow continues, and we are nearing the two-foot mark, though the weatherman swears it isn't snowing outside. I wonder if he pre-recorded his forcasts before taking a sunny vacation elsewhere?--Steve

February 5th

(My arms are weary of shoveling snow, so it is a good time for another update) Seventeen works by eight different English women from the Victorian era. Six of the eight poets are new to the collection. This batch includes Lord Walter's Wife by Browning, which I have been meaning to add for a while.--Steve

February 4th

(As I am writing this, I look out my window and see more snow drifting downward to join the 16" already on the ground. It must be February--Steve)

Well, since the alphabet has been completed, we can go back to our normal announcement format:

January 4th

At long last, the entire alphabet is up. Work will now commence on re-building the indicies to shorter and longer works, the subject index, and an index to illustrations. I also have an appreciable backlog of material to wade through.

We are open again to contributions. Please note that all new additions need to be at least 75 years since first date of publication, or I must have written permission of use from the copyright holder. --Steve

January 2nd

The letter 'N' is now up, with 19 works by 7 poets, and the letter 'O' is up with 27 works by 4 poets, including Owen.

The letter 'R' is up, with 96 works by 5 notable poets including Christina Rosetti and E.A. Robinson.

The letter 'P' is up, with 68 works by 12 poets.

And yes, we are back above the 3,000 mark.

--Steve

January 1st

(Happy New Year) Fifteen works by Shelley, eight by Thoreau, and fourteen by Edward Thomas are now online.

Also up are the works of Poe, Spenser, Sidney. Pope, Scott, and several others. This includes some major pieces such as Spenser's Amoretti, Sidney's Astrophil and Stella, and Scott's Lay of the Last Minstrel. Tyhe pieces by Pope include Essay on Man, Essay on Criticism, and The Rape of the Lock.

And finally, all of 'V' is also up, including Henry Vaughan.

Phew - rather a busy holiday. --Steve

December 31st

Two books of works by Robert Service, The Spell of the Yukon, Rhymes of a Rolling Stone, and Ballads of a Cheechako, have been added.

The inex entries for Coleridge, Jackson, Jonson, Keats, and Wordsworth have all been updated to the 'new format'. --Steve

December 30th

Our big end-of-the-year update continues. Nelson has been working on Ezra Pound, and we now have 26 works online. --Steve

December 29th

Lots of work is going on to improve the infrastructure of the collection. Most of it is not visible to users, but will eventually make itself felt in the form of quicker updates and easier additions.

Substantial bibliographic additions have been made to the 'other' poetry indicies -- particularly at the end of the alphabet -- w to z.

Before I continue with the wholesale completion of the alphabet, I've been doing some clean-up work on additions:

from Nelson: An Ode by Daniel; A Song for St. Cecilia's Day, 1687 by Dryden; and an Ode by Joseph Addison, and the complete works (1 poem) of Chidiock Tichborne.

from Steve: A Revelation by Coventry Patmore, and On the World by Francis Quarles

and from Francois Boudreau another Epitaph from Spoon River by Edgar Lee Masters and The Builders by Longfellow.

December 28th

Happy holidays everyone. Over the break 16 works by e.e. cummings have been added, along with a detailed bibliography of his poetic works in the 'suggested further reading' section. There are also three works from Archibald Macleish --Steve

December 14th

In digging through the (large)backlog of material that has not made it online yet, I noticed that Jon Lachelt had sent in Moore's A Visit from Saint Nicholas, aka 'Twas the night before Christmas, which it seemed appropriate to squeeze in this week. --Steve

Shakespeare has also been added back in, including all 154 sonnets. --Steve

Tennyson is also back online, including The Princess, Locksley Hall, and The Lady of Shallot.

Stevenson is also on, including A Child's Garden of Verses.

December 13th

Added the books Rosa Mystica and Wind Flowers by Oscar Wilde. --Steve

December 12th

Bob has added a page for a Daily Poem generally selected from the collection, with additional commentary.

Added 14 'W' works, three by Wylie and Six by Williams (all from Nelson) and three by Wyatt and two more by Waller. I am also still working on the site counter system. Pardon the quirky numbers in the meantime.

Revised the index listing for Wordsworth (thanks Bob) to what we are calling the 'new format' for poet listings - with all date information included.

Bob has created a site dedicated to the 'War Poets' of the first World War, including Rupert Brooke, Wilfred Owen, John McCrae, and Alan Seeger. --Steve

December 6th

Skipped ahead to 'W', added 23 works by Wordsworth and 35 works by Ella Wheeler Wilcox. Sincere thanks to Nelson for contributing a copy of 'Poems of Reflection'. I have also added three new pictures of Ella, including one from inside the cover of 'Reflection'. --Steve

November 17th

Uploading 'M'--including 20 works by Charles Murray. --Steve

November 17th

Finally finished the letter 'M' -- 174 works by 25 poets, including major collections of Macaulay, Masefield, Marvell, Millay and Morris. --Steve

November 12th

Finished off Longfellow with 9 added works, including The Skeleton in Armor. --Steve

November 9th

After careful searches by Bob and Nelson, 'L' is now online, with an additional 187 works by 22 poets. I'm working my back through Longfellow's complete works, so he will be receiving the same treatment as Hardy and Yeats. --Steve

November 8th

I've finished off our holdings of Thomas Hardy with 17 additional selections taken from several of his books. --Steve

November 3rd

We've been expanding and refining the collections of Kipling, Yeats, and Hardy. Copyright searches through 'N' are mostly complete, so L-M-N should be added soon. (There are lots of L's and M's, so it is not a simple task.) --Steve

October 11th

Continuing to bring the collection back online - indicies A-B, C-D, E-F, G-H, I-J, K, Y-Z and Traditional are now available. A substantial selection of works by Helen Hunt Jackson has been added, to my knowledge the largest collection of her material on the Web. Thanks to Bob for the beautifully preserved volume used as a source. Thanks for the Nth time to Bob and Nelson for help researching publishing dates. --Steve

October 6th

Well, welcome back. It has been a long and trying month, but the collection has been recreated at long last, bit by bit. You will note a fair number of additions, and that many of the 20th century authors have been removed from these pages until we can either (a) ascertain that selected works are in the public domain or (b) obtain explicit permission for use from the copyright holder.

At the moment, only the Author Indexes A-B and C-D are online. Others indicies will be brought back online regularly, type and subject indicies will be revised, and the regular addition process will at some point resume. All for now, --Steve
